Relative Detectability: Individuals are moderately apparent, and more often detected by their very low "drumming" sound. Nesting is confirmed mainly by noting fledglings with adults.

Challenge: Determine better the current extent of breeding in Ochoco Mountains and in parts of the Coast Range.
